Chavonne Chin-Albert was a beloved Hiram student who recently took her own life.  She was a freshman member of the rugby team and the Advertising Officer for Kennedy Center Programming Board.  In the short amount of time that Chavonne was on this campus, she became known as an outgoing and free spirited person who spoke her mind and had the ability to make people laugh.  The Hiram community may never understand the circumstances that led up to Chavonne’s passing, but we must always carry with us the memories that we made with her.

The counselors at Hiram, Dr.  Kevin Feisthamel and Julie Lineburgh, are both available at the Julia Church Health Center for anyone who would like to talk.  Mike Corr and the area Resident Directors and Resident Assistants are always available as well.

If anyone is feeling suicidal, they should contact the Health Center, Hiram Police, Resident Director on duty, Townhall II HELPLINE, or Coleman Access, all of which are valuable resources available to the students.

If someone you know is talking or thinking about death, has worsening clinical depression, is taking risks that could lead to death, has loss of interest in things they used to care about, is making comments about being hopeless, helpless, or worthless, or is tying up loose ends, do not hesitate to contact one of the aforementioned resources on their behalf.

There will be a suicide prevention awareness program on Thursday, January 24th from noon to 1:30pm in the Kennedy Center Ballroom.  There will also be grief/loss support groups offered Thursday, January 24th; Friday, January 25th; Tuesday, January 29th from 3-4:00pm.  There is also one on Wednesday, January 30th from 2-3:00pm.  All groups will be located at the Interfaith Chapel located behind the Julia Church Health Center.  If you have any questions, please contact Dr.  Kevin Feisthamel at feisthamelkp@hiram.edu or 330-569-5418.

Chavonne Chin-Albert was my neice she was adored her by everyone that knew her especially her family who knew her best.I speak on behalf of my entire family when I say we are all saddened, heartbroken and confused over the passing of such a beautiful, intelligent ,funny,outgoing,kind-hearted,artistic young woman who had her whole life ahead of her. Those that were blessed to cross patches with Chavonne and spend time with her knew she was raised by wonderful loving parents who instilled in her the love of GOD is well as the love of LIFE.Chavonne had little sisters that cherished, admired and looked up to her they could not have asked for a better big sister. What devastates me the most is that she was so sad she felt there was no other way but to do this. If anyone can offer some kind of explanation please call me so we can talk I don’t care who you are I will not blame anyone or judge anyone someone please call me Thank you Robin white A.K.A.
